Die Familie Tiefenbacher führt einen Bio-Bergbauernhof in Niedernsill im Salzburger Pinzgau. Die Kühe leben in einem Laufstall sowie auf den Weiden im Tal, sodass sie ohne Zusatz von Kraftfutter auskommen. Im Frühsommer kommen die Kühe auf die Alm wo sie bis zum Almabtrieb Anfang September bleiben.
Auch Gabriel, 13 Jahre alt, eines der acht Kinder von Manuela und Sepp Tiefenbacher, lebt den ganzen Sommer auf der Alm und kümmert sich dort um die Kühe. Nur ungern kommt er wegen wichtiger Angelegenheiten wie einem Arzttermin oder einer familiären Verpflichtung ins Tal. Auf der Alm helfen ihm zwar Senner Hubert und Sennerin Magda, durchgehend oben ist aber nur er.

The Tiefenbacher family manages an organic mountain farm in the village of Niedernsill in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg, Austria. Devoted to animal welfare, the cows live in a playpen and on the valley’s pasturelands. They are fed without the addition of conventional concentrated fodder. In early summer, they are driven up onto the mountain pastures where they will stay for grazing until the driving down in early September.
Gabriel, 13 years of age, one of Manuela and Sepp Tiefenbachers’ eight kids, stays on the mountain pasture throughout the summer taking care of the cows. Very reluctantly and only for a good reason such as a doctor’s appointment or a family affair does he come down into the valley. Up on the mountain pasture he has help form herdsman Hubert and dairymaid Magda, but he is the only one continuously present up there.
